Weight Loss Diaries of Alisha

Hi,
I am Alisha John, me and Aditi are very close friends....I gained 15 pounds of extra weight in past 1 year. I was very ignorant and I not even realized and I was 68kgs, which is very unusual for me as I was 50 kgs only.I am 5'4" and my body shape is curvy. My face looked big, I lost all the charm, my arms were huge. In my head I thought I am pretty.  But a few times people really said things to me for which I was not prepared and I was really hurt. I am all buckled up to loose weight now. The friends and my family were instantly ready to support me. I hired a trainer yesterday and I told this to Aditi. She encouraged me, but when I discussed my fears with her that I loose the discipline, many a times I get disheartened in the process and moreover I have no one to discuss my personal feelings about it, she suggested that I should start writing to communicate with the girls all over the world by writing blog as my weight loss diary.

I really loved the idea, so I am going to start writing a blog for "The Style Hymn" under the category Alisha's Weight Loss Diaries, in which I plan to discuss my feelings, my daily diet,my food habits, the tips which my trainer will suggest,(if you have particular doubts specifically let me know, I will get them answered) the exercise regime that I will follow. I know you are also lost somewhere like me, we share the same feelings and it will be nice to do it with my friends like you.... (yeah the readers with whom I wanna be best friends). We can share all about weight loss and we can loose the weight together. I will encourage you to post your comments which will keep me going.....

Living each day and not Regretting!

The only thing I hear the most people miss about their childhood is the guilt free innocent and adolescent nature they had. Why is it that as we grow old, we keep loosing the innocence? What happens between the two eras? Many of us loose faith in good, many of us are hurt in the process.I have been too. I also lost the faith in good but I revived my faiths and beliefs. Life has different phases which come and go. We try to learn lessons from them, the thought changing phenomenon is not easy. We often find ourselves stuck in the moral issues. Why is it the conditions are so strong that we get so weak to retain the real us through them . Why do we question our own basics and principles when all our lives, we have been living believing in them. What is the right way to be? How to re-purify the soul.....how to loose the grudge?

Most of us believe in indestructible soul which is eternal....As quoted in the Bhagvad Geeta, the sacred book of Karma,
                                                  "avinasi tu tad viddhi
                                                   yena sarvam idam tatam
                                                   vinasam avyayasyasya

                                                   na kascit kartum arhati"

Which means"Know that which pervades the entire body is indestructible. No one is able to destroy the imperishable soul. When the soul is purified from the contamination of the five kinds of material (air, water, earth, fire, sky), its spiritual influence is exhibited."
Now the question is if the soul is eternal,if the soul is indestructible, how can our soul or original purity can be lost? No, Its never lost. I find the same kid inside me hidden somewhere. I still love the rain, I still go happy when I see the cute puppies and I feel like playing with them. What has changed is our ideas and beliefs which evolve with time. These ideas and beliefs can always be reverted back, if you are strong enough, no one can take away your goodness, be it any condition. Its good to learn from the mistakes. But if you were wronged just forgive and move ahead. The purity of mind and heart not only plays a vital role in our health but also in beauty.A good soul has a beautiful aura.....which will make it shine in all odds. So, all I want to say is, Be good, Be forgiving...Be yourself! Don't hate someone to the extent that you may forget the true yourself. There is so much beauty in the world, the only effort we need to make is open our eyes to see it!So , Wake UP Girl!

My favorite pieces from Seasons India

Hi Style Worshipers,
All my Desi readers must be aware of the Indian saree, but those who have never been to India, its time for me to take you to an amazing journey of art and beauty! An Indian saree is a costume which can be worn in several ways(just like multi way dresses) but that can be a tough job, it can be tedious for the beginners, but they can purchase pre-stitched sarees that can be worn in a wink of eye, very easily. Here is a collection of few sarees that I aspire to get in my next visit to India.

I love the turquoise. The corset style choli is very modern and feminine.

In love with the work at the waist!!

The Classic Gold and Black!

Polki Work!

The work on the fabric is cutwork, zardozi , zari, kadhai.....its very beautiful! Each piece costs nearly $2000,
The Indian saree is perfect for all the occasions, from wedding guests to a dinner night! I plan to buy the last two sarees for my cousin's wedding....If you like what you see, leave your comments,  we will love to hear from you!

Every Girl Has A Right To Fashion!

A lot of time the ego of small town girls is hurt by the uptown girls. Should it stop you? NO. If you can't afford the high end designer clothes, it does not means that you can not be fashionable. All of us are not lucky enough to get everything we want, most of us are different, we believe in self dependence, we believe in Karma....Can designer clothes enhance your appearance? Not necessarily. The fashion phenomenon is changing. If you know how to style, you can look good in anything. The eternal thing is your style, if their is no personalization in it, it looks fake. It's not always necessary to be in designers, you don't need a label on your clothes to get identified by others. You should be identified by your unique style. I think one can look great with a confident smile....Sometimes, it is good to be your own designer and stylist as well. If you have a good tailor, you can really design the clothes yourself. No one else can understand what looks good on you better than yourself.

Vogue's Director of Special Event Sylvana Ward Durret
wears the H&M trench coat dress, which is not more than $50 and she looks stunning!!
She says "I’m a big believer in high-low wear. This trench dress from H&M is weather-versatile, great for all seasons. On cold days, I wear it with a long-sleeved stripy sweater and tights, and in the spring, it works well with this Rag & Bone cream silk blouse. If you haven’t noticed, I always belt a trench."

With the advent of mixing and matching trend(mix designer with the normal), the whole fashion perspective has changed. I love Alexander McQueen, I think he is the Knight of the Fashion! In his golden words, he described the current fashion phenomenon as: "I think the idea of mixing luxury and mass-market fashion is very modern - wearing head-to-toe designer has become a bit passe. It's a new era in fashion - there are no rules. It's all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together". The trends change , i still treasure the clothes which were passed to me by my cousins, there are even clothes which are fifteen years old, but still they look super hot. Many of them are not designer but still they look fabulous. A few dresses were passed to me by my Mom, which I wear as Vintage.

Sara McDowellVogue’s Photo Assistant, wears her Mom's dress and looks charming and classy.
She says "Channeling the 1940s with a dress suit is a great way to start a Monday and an even better way to introduce my style—a hodgepodge of reworked, classic vintage pieces. Said dress was originally my mother’s, but I modernized it a bit by raising the hemline. The navy-blue-and-half-moon-print detailing lends a whimsical feel, making it a little less serious than your run-of-the-mill dress suit. And the shoes—nude, strappy platform heels from Nine West—are my go-to pair throughout the summer.".

You don't need to be labeled to be well dressed. Try to be more generous and adaptive, real style and fashion is just not about spending money, its about how well you style anything ,everything, how witty you are and how creative you can be in your dressing. So, fahionistas, choose well, choose with intelligence!

From the Spring Book of the Forever21
Remember, in the initial years of their carriers, even Chanel and  Alexander McQueen also were unknown and lost in the crowd, may be the upcoming designers today are the next generation Fashion wizards. Sometimes, nice steals could be found in Flea market as well. Being experimental in your dressing style expresses that you have evolving ideas and you are bold enough to try new things.

Stella GreenspanVogue’s fashion assistant wears a Flea market jacket and manages to look the It Girl.
She says "My jacket is from a flea market in Paris, and I sewed on the buttons myself. I like to customize things; it gives them a personal note and makes them original. The pants are from Zara, my tank is Margaret Howell, my belt is Trash and Vaudeville, and my shoes are Grieder.".

So, all I have to say fashionistas is that, be expressive, be experimental, be fearless, be outgoing, be ravishing....... Their is a beautiful soul inside you, explore it and express it!!
